This module presents the content of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 in a way that is both interactive and fun.

Overview

The SOX Challenge is designed to present the content of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 in a way that is both interactive and fun. The first part of the SOX Challenge discusses a series of financial fraud cases from 2002 and examines the economic and political climate that led to the development of this legislation. The second section examines each title of the Act. The last part of this module provides an interactive activity that tests the knowledge and comprehension of students through their participation in a group-based game.

Target audience

This tool is designed primarily for juniors and seniors. Students currently enrolled in their first auditing class or those who have completed their first audit class may benefit from the SOX Challenge. However, students who have not taken auditing will likely be enriched through this material.

Objective

The SOX Challenge module is intended to: describe some of the more important financial scandals of 2001 and their impact on the audit profession; help students understand how financial and political activity shaped the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002; provide the students with a working knowledge of all eleven titles of the Act; as well as, cover in detail, the major sections of the Act and examine their implications.

The Ethical Compass – A Toolkit for Integrity in Business

This multi-part toolkit of classroom learning materials was developed in collaboration between KPMG’s Ethics and Compliance group and Dr. Barbara Porco of Fordham University. The Ethical Compass toolkit provides a comprehensive review of the issues related to ethical behaviors in business as well as interactive learning materials and exercises for your students. Each of these modules can be easily integrated into an accounting, auditing, or business ethics curriculum individually, or the multi-part toolkit can serve as the foundation for a complete ethics program within an accounting, auditing or other business curriculum.
